Vorarlberg is strongly influenced by the Alemannic region with respect to both language and culture. Due to this influence, the alpenhorn has been a part of Vorarlberg's musical tradition since it was reintroduce in Switzerland at the end of the 19th century.

More attention has been paid to newly composed and scripted Alemannic dialect songs in the last 50 years. In the totality of song tradition, entertaining, joking songs are prominent and have adopted many characteristics from other regions or styles.

However, rare melodies and dancing styles are known from Vorarlberg's history and can be assumed to have an ancient tradition.
