Upper Austria

Upper Austria is mainly characterised by a variety of interpretations of the Landler especially in its rural regions. Closely related to this is "Gstanzl singing", which is popular in many areas. As well as the Landler, violin playing has a long tradition, especially in the Inn Quarter in the west and Salzkammergut in the south.

The Salzkammer gut has preserved its own tradition of fife and drum music. Piper's Day celebrates this type of music on a different Alp in August of each year.

The long history of metalworking in the east has given birth to many songs on this subject.
