Gstanzl

This is a popular and independent style of social song, which is also known as the "Vierzeiler" (Four Liner) or "Schnaderhüpfl". It is in fact a single-verse two or four liner, and the most important basic form of folk song in Austria. The can contain ironic wisdom, or recommendations, or satirise events and people jokes and scorn are often found in the Gstanzl. It is composed off the cuff by a group of people, or a leading singer, or sung with a chorus. The Landler integrates the Gstanzl as a dance.
